Arizona SB1093 is on the docket right now and on Wednesday afternoon, the 21st, the Senate Public Safety Committee will be reviewing it at 2pm.
Ordinary citizens are not being informed when most bills are being introduced and debated. This particular bill, according to ICNL, would expand the definition of “riot” and “conspiracy to riot.” Current Arizona law defines “riot,” a Class 5 felony, as recklessly using or threatening to use force or violence, together with at least two other people, in a way that disturbs the public peace. The bill would expand the definition to include the use or threat of force or violence that results in any amount of property damage. Under this definition, demonstrators in a protest that results in incidental damage such as trampled landscaping or scuffed paint could be at greater risk of liability for felony “riot.” The bill would also revise Arizona law on “conspiracy” when involving the crime of “riot.” Under current law, an individual may only be liable for felony conspiracy if they intend to aid commission of a crime, they agree with another person that someone will commit a crime, and someone in the conspiracy commits an overt act that furthers the crime. Under the bill, individuals could be liable for “conspiracy to riot” even in the absence of an overt act; mere intent and an agreement to engage in conduct that would constitute “riot” would be sufficient.
If this doesn’t sit right with you, contact these legislators either today or tomorrow morning to make your voice be heard:

The advantage of having Governor Katie Hobbs in office is her power to veto any bill when it comes to her desk. But it would be best to nip this thing in the early stages if possible. I don’t want a felony charge for stepping on someone’s shrub when peacefully protesting.

A list of the top Fox News advertisers include these companies: GlaxoSmithKline, Liberty Mutual, General Motors, Procter & Gamble, Intuit, NortonLifeLock, Nestle, Kraft Heinz, Progressive, Charles Schwab, Toyota, and Subaru. (Bummed about Toyota)
As Fox News is one of the major mouthpieces for right-wing fanatics, petitioning these businesses to cease funding these lying liars is but one step to hit them financially. Action Network has a current petition and you can participate in a few easy steps.

HCR reports that in just a year since his second inauguration, Trump has torn apart the work that took almost a century of struggle and painstaking negotiations from the world’s best diplomats to build. Since World War II, generations of world leaders, often led by the United States, created an international order designed to prevent future world wars. They worked out rules to defend peoples and nations from the aggressions of neighboring countries, and tried to guarantee that global trade, bolstered by freedom of the seas, would create a rising standard of living that would weaken the ability of demagogues to create loyal followings.
Garrett Graff, journalist and instructor at Georgetown University in the Master’s in Professional Studies Journalism and Public Relations, writes, “We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done. A superpower is [dying by] suicide because the [Republican] Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King. This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.”
Most of this is the work of an un-elected official, Stephen Miller, pulling the strings of the rotting carcass that is *rump. As HCR puts it, as he was appointed by Trump and with a reasonable expectation that Trump will pardon him for any crimes he commits, Miller is insulated both from the rule of law and, crucially, from the will of voters.
With his claim that “American dollars, American treasure, American blood, American ingenuity is what keeps Europe safe and the free world safe,” Miller is erasing the genius of the generations before us. It is not the U.S. that has kept the world safe and kept standards of living rising: it is our alliances and the cooperation of the strongest nations in the world, working together, to prevent wannabe dictators from dividing the world among themselves.
A reason among MANY others we stand in the street to speak our minds.
