In yesterday’s post I mentioned I would burden you with the process of making Not Boots Randolph. I started the project mid March of this year thinking it might take a month or so to complete the idea that had been bouncing around in my brain for awhile. As things go, it only took twice as long as every step had problems to solve, and my very basic skills with wood and armature work was all done on the fly.
You might ask…how do you cut all those tile pieces? And what’s the source material? I’ve been using the same tile nippers since I started doing mosaic work over a decade ago which you can see in the image before last. They’re getting a bit shaky but I haven’t found any out there in tool-landia that have the same bit of curve on the nip edge that satisfies and refreshes like these. And source material is mostly broken plates that I’ve been collecting for well over a decade.
As a bonus, here are some work images from Flaxen Folded Shirt, which now lives in Austin.
And if you haven’t had enough, you can always see more work on my website.
And now…
Who knew art was so dangerous? 🤔
The struggle is real....♡
This is such an interesting process and makes you appreciate all the steps for your creations. Amazing to see the boots evolve over time.
