A very short one today as what a week it’s been. Last Sunday my MacBook Pro, which is my main tool for EVERYTHING, began signs of swelling. It’s possible it was slowly swelling for a bit but it became most apparent when I was packing it up to take to Prescott for the week. It didn’t shut quite right. I posted about it on Facebook and got several excellent responses. One problem was that I was headed out of town on Monday to the wifi wasteland. No connectivity at the ma-in-law house. So all communication went through my tiny iPhone (You’ve used all of your data. You've been charged $15.00 overage based on your plan. It will appear on your next bill) trying to decide the next move. Of course, I had planned on doing some writing on my laptop whilst in Trump-landia but alas, I was nervous about starting up the poor swollen thing.
And then there were the chores for the Prescott house that needed attention. I won’t go into it here but suffice it say Connie and I were running around trying to solve as many problems as we could in the time we had.
Several people advised that I change out the battery in the old beast (a late-2013 model). I could’ve done that, I suppose, but the chassis seems beyond repair. So we are fortunate to have an Apple certified store in town (2 blocks from my house!) called Simutek. They not only carry new Macs and accessories, they always have several used computers they’ve refurbished from trade-ins. So as soon as I got back into town Thursday I sauntered over there and settled on a 2018 MacBook Pro with the same specs as my old one except with newer graphics card and processor. I’m typing on it now.
With my fingers crossed I also started up the old beast to copy over some stuff (bookmarks, mail folders, files, folders) and it actually still boots up just fine. Most of my data I back up on two external hard drives I keep connected so there wasn’t too much to transfer. Exciting information, am I right?
After I bought the new-for-me laptop I put on my popsicle shirt and celebrated.
Before I sign off I just heard that Connor Gallaher will be joining us for the Sunday Sessions. We’ll be out on the courtyard once again from 2:30-5 at Borderlands Brewing Company. If you haven’t heard Connor yet, you’re in for a treat.
And now…
Good luck with the new (for you) book. Oh, and nice shirt
You did right, that kinda swelling don't go down with a dab o' calamine lotion...
