This last Saturday I was ever so fortunate to feel the amazing sense of community and love that gathered round for my art opening at the Triangle L Ranch. I want to thank my Oracle pals Kaz & Frank, Cinnamon & John, Tina & Kim, June (& Becky), Deb, Mitch, Judy & Jaime, and the new (for me) Oracle folks I met that day—Christopher and Michael—who came to the reception on Saturday. And to the Tucsonans who made the drive; Taza & Mary, Judy & Karl, Cantrell & David, Sarah & Wayne, Tana & Kirk, Paul and his friend whose name I’m forgetting, and anyone else my overworked brain is missing—thank you for making it a lovely social gathering of friends. And a special thanks to Sharon and Kyle for hosting the event, and my wife Connie for helping me stay sane. We really owned the libs, Heh? (BTW, the show will be up through December…make an appointment by calling 520-404-4022)
Speaking of owning the libs…I can see that most of you voted blue. Considering the billions poured into election-denier campaigns, we did damn good. Unfortunately five wins on Monday gave the GOP 217 seats in the house. But the governor and Secretary of State races across the country proved to be unexpectedly good. And the Senate! Thank you, Nevadans, and thank you in advance, Georgians. Meanwhile, according to Politico, former Vice President Mike Pence is giving “prayerful consideration” to a 2024 presidential bid. Eewwwwwwww….
In Arizona, we didn’t win the governorship due to the charisma and passionate speeches of Katie Hobbs. Although proven a competent administrator, I thought we would lose this due to her lack of…fire. As it turns out, perhaps Kari Lake lost due to her own smarminess. And her endorsement by the repulsive one. Maybe, just maybe, people are worn down by the constant prattle on the right about everything but issues that concern working folks. I got an email last night from a friend in LA who went to Yuma to knock on doors leading up to the election. He said he was surprised that First of all that anyone would answer the door. Wouldn't happen in LA. But I was really surprised at how many people wanted to talk. They were tired of the shit and wanted the gov to stop bickering and attend to the work that needs done. Healthcare, childcare, climate issues, work conditions, voting rights, a real immigration policy, infrastructure. It was a long list and nowhere did fixing the broken 2020 election appear on it.
I’m looking forward to some really boring years with Katie Hobbs.
On another note, before I ventured up to the abandoned convent in Monchique I told you about last Friday, I stumbled across Tara Bongard’s amazing studio, property, and gardens. She and her husband Sylvain moved here from the coast in 2018 and have created a magical place for themselves.
And now…
My heart was at least partially at your opening! Congrats dear friend. ♥️
So sorry we missed the Opening! I'm sure we will try to see the show.
