I’m going back to my post of March 1, Day Trippers, to put a cap on that story. As we were nearing the end of the 50 mile trip, over terrain my trusty ol’ Dodge van proved to be surprisingly adept, we had to cross the Santa Cruz River which now has running water. I was the last one through and our trusty guide, Kirk Astroth, was out of his car observing the process. After crossing he said I had dislodged a log of some sort as he saw ‘it’ jump up out of the water and flip over. We had a bit of a laugh as the six of us in the vehicle were just glad we made it across.
Turns out, on closer inspection back at home, the ‘log’ was the rubber portion of my front bumper.
Word got around to Kirk so, as he is tooling around in that area quite often, he said he and his buddy Jeff would take a look for it. I thought that was above and beyond any call of duty but that’s just the way he rolls.
Anyway, a week passes, I haven’t heard a thing, so I just chalked it up to just another wound on the old road-weary beast.
As I said in the previous post, the day trippers are all people who are quite religious about attending the Sunday Sessions at Borderlands Brewing Company. Sure enough, this last Sunday, as we were getting ready for our second set, Kevin had me do a drum roll as there was to be some sort of special presentation. Little did I know. Kevin started telling the story of the bumper at the river as Kirk and Jeff brought it up to the stage…I was overcome with gratitude, mostly from the act of kindness that these guys directed to me. Wow!
The rest of the story I’ll present in images:
And now…
I will never hear a drumroll in the same way again!
Don’tcha just love surprises??? Very sweet.
